This dataset is a combination of data sourced from multiple different organisation that have made their data freely available under Creative Commons licencing.
Why?
Not all businesses will be a company, and not all businesses will have a registered business name.
A single “business” may comprise many entities, and therefore have multiple ABNs, companies registered with ASIC, and potentially, multiple registered business names.
This dataset delivers a unified view of all business entities and their trading identities, providing a comprehensive summary of Australian businesses available, collated and uploaded to the Snowflake Marketplace for your convenience.

Australian Business Register (ABR)
The Australian Business Number (ABN) Bulk Extract file from the Australian Business Register (ABR) details the registration details for all current and historical ABNs in Australia.
An ABN is a necessity for an Australian business to trade in Australia and is used for tax purposes.

Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC)
Company entities and business name data is from the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) who are responsible for the registration of Company entities as well as business name registrations.
