Open Data Day 2026: Free Datasets for Students

See what's new +

Open Data Days: 7-13 March 2026

Open Data Day 2026 is a global celebration of accessible, impactful data and Data Army Intel is proud to be part of it. We’re supporting students across universities by providing free access to curated, real-world datasets designed for projects, hackathons, datathons and coursework.

By making high-quality data easier to access and query, we’re helping students move beyond theory and work with datasets that reflect how data is used in industry.

Open Data’s Potential

Open data has huge potential but students and data users alike often hit the same barriers:

  • The data can be messy
  • The structure isn’t always analysis-ready
  • The documentation might be thin
  • It could take more time to clean than to learn

Data Army Intel exists to change that

Data Army Intel sources high-value open datasets, curates and transforms them into analysis-ready assets.

By eliminating the time-intensive work of sourcing, cleaning and structuring raw data, we significantly reduce friction and accelerate speed to experimentation, speed to analysis, speed to insight and innovation.

In the spirit of open data during Open Data Week (and beyond!), we’re getting the word out about our free Data Army Intel datasets available on the Snowflake Marketplace so students can explore, experiment, and build real-world projects in Snowflake.

About Snowflake

Snowflake is a leading cloud-based data platform used by organisations around the world to store, manage and analyse data at scale.

It allows you to query large datasets using SQL, connect to BI tools, and run analytics directly in the cloud, without needing to manage infrastructure.

Using Data Army Intel datasets through Snowflake Marketplace, you’ll be working in the same type of environment used across industry.

With Snowflake for Academia, students can gain marketable skills in data and AI, and earn recognised industry certifications.

What is Data Army Intel?

Data Army Intel is the data publishing and knowledge platform of Data Army, an Australia-based data consultancy working with enterprise and high-growth organisations across Australia.

Data Army Intel publishes structured datasets on the Snowflake Marketplace, alongside knowledge articles and practical guides that help users understand how to use them.

We provide access to data and make it more usable, more credible, and more practical for real-world outcomes.

Our data is:

  • Ready to query: structured and readily usable in Snowflake
  • Commercially relevant: credible data to drive real-world industry outcomes
  • Practically supported: with guides and insights that help you apply it

We offer a select range of free, read-to-query datasets:

1) Helping you spend more time analysing and experimenting

We structure datasets so you can focus on exploring patterns, building models and testing ideas, rather than spending hours wrangling messy files.

2) Bridging classroom learning with real-world data

Our structured datasets are used in industry. That means you can test real hypotheses, build stronger portfolio projects and gain experience working with commercially relevant data.

3) Supporting the next generation of data professionals

We believe students should have access to credible, analysis-ready datasets that accelerate learning, experimentation, and career growth.

What makes Data Army Intel datasets different?

Data Army Intel sources open datasets and transforms them into ready-to-use, structured assets that can be queried directly in Snowflake.

We remove the heavy lifting involved in sourcing, cleaning and processing raw data.

Data Army Intel datasets are:
Structured: consistent fields and usable formats
Credible: built with real-world application in mind and are used commercially in industry
Snowflake-ready: immediately queryable via the Snowflake Marketplace
Practical: suited for SQL, Python, BI tools, and analytics workflows
Accessible: ready to explore without complex data engineering overhead

What you can use the datasets for

These datasets are perfect for supporting real student projects with real-world data.
